Sibusiso Layton Gumede

Sibusiso Layton Gumede has 29 years of experience as an optometrist. Since 1995, he has owned and operated two Durban-based practices. From Umlazi, Durban, he holds qualifications including BSc (UN), BOptom (UDW), CAS (NECO, USA), Dip Bus Management (UKZN), and Dip Pub Health (UKZN). His practice is well-regarded, serving a diverse clientele including high-profile figures. He is a Part-Time Lecturer at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, former Deputy CEO at Isoleso, and Clinical Advisor for Momentum Medical Aid. A founder of Lathitha Eye Care, he also engages in community education through radio shows and serves on the HPCSA Professional Conduct Committee.

Khathutshelo Percy Mashige

Khathutshelo Mashige is a Full Professor and Dean of the School of Health Sciences at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He holds a BSc in Medical Sciences from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Bachelor of Optometry from the University of Durban Westville, with a Masters and Doctoral degrees from KwaZulu-Natal. He completed ocular diagnostics and therapeutics studies at NECO and State University of New York. Professor Mashige is the CEO of the African Vision Research Institute and chairs multiple committees, including the Education, Training and Registration Committee. A National Research Foundation-rated scientist, he is involved in various research initiatives and has received numerous awards for his contributions to optometry and public health.
